A little help with the record.

Where does the data come from?

Vote records come from the United States Senate through the OpenVote data service. Use the official source link on a vote page to verify the original record. OpenVote summaries are clearly labeled and are not official wording.

How do I find a vote?

Open Votes, enter a keyword, bill name, or topic, and choose Search. You can also choose an outcome before searching. Search includes plain-language summaries and official text. Use Next and Previous to browse the results.

How do I find my senators?

Open Senators and choose your state under All states. You can select more than one state and narrow by party or name. Choose Search to apply your selections. Open a profile to see the senator’s available voting history.

What do Passed and Rejected mean?

These are simplified labels. Passed includes results such as agreed to, adopted, and confirmed. Rejected includes rejected, failed, and withdrawn results. Other results remain under All outcomes or Other. Always check the official result on the detail page.

What is the difference between Present and Not Voting?

Present is a recorded response distinct from Yea and Nay. Not Voting means the roll call does not record a Yea, Nay, or Present vote for that senator. The record alone does not explain why.

Why can’t I see a recent vote?

OpenVote shows the records available through its data service. New votes may take time to appear after publication. The latest available date is shown on the Votes page. For the latest official information, check Senate.gov.

Does a profile show a senator’s entire career?

Not necessarily. Statistics and voting history reflect the records currently available in OpenVote. They should not be treated as a complete career record.

Do I need an account?

No. You can browse, search, and share record links without signing up. Read the privacy page for details about normal website requests and hosting logs.

What if records won’t load?

Check your connection, then choose Try again or refresh the page. If the problem continues, email us with the page URL, your browser, and a description of what happened.
